Vehicles in Germany's City Found Covered with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Authorities stated they were notified by a individual who found a vehicle in Hanau smeared with red-colored substance

Approximately 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.

Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.

Officers say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.

The fluid had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Police then found numerous other marked automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Police say early analysis show the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no indication as to its source; officials are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in association with the event," they commented.

Local authorities announced they were working "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the public for information.

A high-ranking official stated the vandalism rendered him without words and needed to be solved quickly.

"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on social media, recalling the murder of nine people by a shooter focusing on residents of migrant background in five years prior.
